Alexandria - After filing their official paperwork on January 7th, the David Englin for Delegate (45th) campaign kicked their grass roots activities into action this past week. Residents in the district began meeting David at their doors as early as Sunday the 9th, while yard signs began popping up in neighborhoods this past weekend.
“I am very excited to have the opportunity to take my ideas directly to the voters of the district,” said David. “Northern Virginia has always had strong progressive leadership from legislators like Marian Van Landingham. I want to continue this tradition and be a unwavering progressive voice for Northern Virginia in the House of Delegates.”
Throughout the campaign David will focus on issues critical to the lives and livelihoods of the people of the 45th District. Among other issues, he will share his plan to fight for affordable housing, improving our transportation infrastructure, ensuring that our schools and teachers have the resources they need and protecting the rights of all Virginians.
“For me this campaign is about fighting for our future,” continued Englin. “My wife and I have a 5 year old son, Caleb. I want to go to Richmond to ensure that he grows up in a Northern Virginia that has the same strong communities and strong values that attracted us and so may other families and businesses to the region.”
An Air Force veteran, David draws from over a decade of experience as a leader in public service. During his twelve-year military career, David managed a wide range of issues, from sensitive and politically charged public safety and environmental programs, to supporting the needs of military families, to building bridges between the military and local community and business organizations. On September 11th, 2001, David was on duty at the Pentagon when it was attacked, and he experienced firsthand the tragedy that struck both Northern Virginia and our nation. He also voluntarily deployed to the Balkans to participate in counter-genocide and peacekeeping operations.
David and his wife Shayna are both active lifelong Democrats. David is a member of the Alexandria Democratic Committee and the Del Ray Citizens Association, where he chairs the Traffic Committee. In 2003, he was appointed by the City Council to Alexandria’s Affordable Housing Advisory Committee, which advises the City Council on affordable housing issues, recommends policies governing the expenditures of the City’s Housing Trust Fund, and oversees the administration of the Trust Fund. This past year, David organized Alexandria Veterans for Kerry, and he and Shayna served as Precinct Captains, mobilizing voters in the George Washington Middle School precinct.
