David shared his passion and his strong progressive message with Latino activists today at a 45th District candidates forum hosted by the Democratic Latino Organization of Northern Virginia (DLOV-NOVA). David used the opportunity to share his thoughts on affordable housing, health care, education, human rights, and fighting for the needs and interests of Northern Virginia.Following his remarks, David took questions from the audience. DLOV State Chair Philip Vasquez asked David how he would make sure he represented every part of the 45th District. David noted the time he has already spent in the Arlington, Mount Vernon, and Lee parts of the district meeting and listening to voters.
“I’m already proving my commitment to the entire 45th District by listening, organizing, and mobilizing voters in every part of the district,” said David.
Alfonso Lopez asked David how he would engage the Latino community to fight the anti-immigrant legislation put forward in this year’s General Assembly. David first noted that these are not merely Latino issues, or issues that only matter to any one particular group, but they are issues that affect us all. David then said that he would listen to the Latino community to make sure he knows and understands their concerns, and that he would use his demonstrated ability to mobilize Democrats to lobby the General Assembly and put a human face on the issues.
“When my grandmother and her family were driven from their homes and fled to this country seeking freedom and opportunity, the word America also meant another word…hope. Republicans in Richmond are trying to erase that hope,” said David.
