In addition to various other critical campaign activities, Team Englin made hundreds of phone calls to voters in the 45th district for our David and to voters in the 32nd district for David Poisson.

As a Jewish candidate, David was invited to share his thoughts on “Judaism and the political life.”

As election approaches, Team Englin firing on all cylinders

Team Englin did its part today to raise money for the American Red Cross Hurricane 2005 Relief Fund at Alexandria’s Gulf Coast Relief Run, whose sponsors included James Carville and Mary Matalin and the Alexandria City Council. David and Caleb joined Red Cross volunteers staffing the water station and cheering runners while Shayna and the rest of the Team Englin contingent ran in the 5K race through Old Town.

“It was terrific to see so many people running for such an important cause. This kind of race usually takes months to put together, but the Alexandria community stepped up and made it happen in just a couple of weeks. It’s a real testament to the spirit of our community,” said David.

After the race, David and another group of Team Englin volunteers spent several hours knocking on doors and talking with voters throughout the 45th district, sharing David’s strong progressive message.

Later in the evening, David joined Sen. Patsy Ticer, Del. Brian Moran, Del. Adam Ebbin, Councilman Ludwig Gaines, and candidate for sheriff Dana Lawhorne as special guest performers with the Hexagon Players, a local political satire group, to raise money to help the Alexandria Democratic Committee elect state and local Democratic candidates.

Englin Dominates Fundraising in 45th District Race

Englin raised a total of $123,921 through the end of the most recent reporting period, including $17,990 in contributions during the latest period, July 1 through Aug. 31.

“While I’m certainly happy that we continue to out-raise my Republican opponent, this election isn’t about the race for money, it’s about who has the ideas, the energy, and the vision to carry on Marian Van Landingham’s legacy of progressive leadership,” said Englin. “My grassroots volunteers and I have continued making thousands of phone calls and knocking on thousands of doors to reach out to voters throughout the 45th district, and our financial advantage will only strengthen those efforts.”

Despite the 45th district’s strong Democratic performance, Englin is taking nothing for granted, and he continues to knock on doors and raise money to fight for every single vote in the Nov.-8 election.

“We’ve already raised several thousand dollars since the end of August. Our recent event at Murphy’s Pub in Old Town, which was hosted by Delegate Marian Van Landingham, House Democratic Caucus Chair Delegate Brian Moran, and other prominent local leaders, was very successful, and we have several other fundraisers already scheduled for the coming weeks,” said Englin.

“I’m so proud of my fellow Democrats for the way we’ve all come together since the primary, and I look forward to working with Democrats, Independents, and moderate Republicans to fight for sensible, progressive legislation in Richmond,” said Englin.

Brian’s birthday bash included words from special guest retried General Wesley Clark, and Brian’s older brother, Congressman Jim Moran, and it raised a good sum of money toward Brian’s efforts as caucus chair to elect more Democrats.

David Englin vows to hold line on dismantling of 2004 budget reform

Richmond, Va. — Democratic House leaders and House of Delegates candidate David Englin vowed to be the “wall” that will prevent the dismantling of the investments made in the 2004 General Assembly session.

“I want to serve in the House of Delegates to continue Governor Mark Warner’s legacy of standing up for fiscal integrity and making investments in Virginia’s future,” said Englin. “I will fight against attempts to dismantle the progress we have made in the last four years.”

“Together we need to fight for sensible, progressive legislation that will strengthen our communities, defend our values, and invest in our future,” said Englin.

Democratic leaders touted that working alongside Governor Mark Warner and Lt. Governor Tim Kaine they invested over $1.5 billion in public schools, $97 million towards public safety that increased the salaries of first responders and took many deputy sheriff’s off food stamps, and because of the historic budget agreement Governor Warner was able to invest over $800 million in 2005 towards transportation needs.

This historic investment along with Governor Warner’s responsible fiscal management helped Virginia preserve their AAA bond rating, being only one of a handful of states to have that honor, and was named “The Best Managed State” by Governing Magazine.

“David Englin is a strong candidate that will be the wall that prevents us from returning to the days of fiscal irresponsibility,” added Delegate Brian Moran Democratic House Caucus Chairman. “He will be part of the driving force that keeps Virginia moving in the right direction.”
