David headlines event for Bruce Roemmelt

200807311509.jpgDavid headlined a happy hour in Arlington today to support Bruce Roemmelt, who is challenging Del. Bob Marshall in the 13th House of Delegates district. Marshall was the author of the anti-gay so-called marriage amendment Team Englin fought against last year, and he is one of the most extreme right-wing legislators in Virginia.

“I’m proud to support my friend, Bruce Roemmelt, in his fight to bring common-sense leadership to the 13th District,” said David. “I need him with me in Richmond so together we can deliver the kind of common-sense, forward-looking public policy our communities deserve.”

The event was cosponsored by the Virginia Partisans, Virginia NOW, and the Arlington Young Democrats.

Roemmelt challenged Marshall in 2005, waging an impressive grassroots effort that saw him beating his district’s Democratic performance by more than 10 percent. David noted that it very often takes more than one try to unseat an entrenched incumbant.

“We’re lucky to have a man like Bruce Roemmelt who has the guts and the courage to take up this fight two cycles in a row,” said David. “That’s how we’re going to win back Virginia.”
