ALEXANDRIA – The political action committee of Equality Virginia endorsed Del. David Englin (D-45) for re-election to the House of Delegates on Nov. 6, sending a letter today to the organization’s members who vote in the 45th District.
“As one of Del. Englin’s first official acts in the House of Delegates in early 2006, he had the opportunity to vote against the so-called marriage amendment in a committee convened literally minutes earlier. A few days later, he spoke out strongly against the amendment as unfair, unwise and un-Virginian,” said Dyana Mason, Equality Virginia’s executive director, in the letter. “On that day, he spoke for all gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender and fair-minded Virginians who rejected writing discrimination into the Virginia Constitution.”
“His outstanding leadership does not end there,” Mason noted. “In 2007, he patroned and marshaled a bill through the legislature allowing ALL Virginians the right to be visited in the hospital by whomever they choose. Working directly with lobbyists for Equality Virginia and the hospital association, that bill passed unanimously in both chambers, was signed by Governor Tim Kaine and became law on July 1, 2007.”
“It’s an honor to have the support of the premier organization in Virginia working to ensure that every Virginian is treated with equal dignity and respect,” said Englin. “Our nation was founded on the idea that every human being is created equal and ought to be equal in freedom, and I’m proud to do my part to move that vision closer to reality.”
Equality Virginia is a statewide, non-partisan lobbying, education and support network for the gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender, and straight allied (GLBT) communities in Virginia.

While David and one crew of volunteers spent the evening out talking with voters at their doorsteps, another full crew of Team Englin volunteers spent Monday evening making phone calls, stuffing envelopes, and doing everything it will take to win on Nov. 6.
“On the heels of such a tremendous weekend of grassroots outreach, I’m so grateful to all of the friends and neighbors who continue to rally to our cause so together we can continue fighting for the interests of our community,” said David. “I never forget that everything I am able to accomplish as y
our Delegate is because I have friends like you standing with me.”

Team Englin flexed its grassroots muscle Saturday, with dozens of volunteers knocking on thousands of doors in one day during our annual Knock and Rock event. After sharing David’s record of principled, effective leadership with voters throughout the 45th District, volunteers and additional supporters returned to food and rockin’ entertainment from Janna Audey and band.
“What an amazing day! I never forget that everything I am able to accomplish as your delegate is because I have people like you standing with me,” said David to the assembled volunteers. “This is the kind of grassroots energy that money can’t buy.”
Special thanks to Lindsey Swanson and Terry Burcham for hosting this year’s event at their home on Luray Ave., to everyone who provided food, drinks, and supplies for the evening’s festivities, and to Janna Audey and band for a terrific evening of music.

ALEXANDRIA – Clean Water Action announced Monday that it endorses Del. David Englin (D-45) for re-election to the House of Delegates on Nov. 6.
“We endorsed David Englin in 2005 and we’re glad we did. He’s been a strong proponent for policies in Richmond that protect and restore Virginia’s waters,” said Andrew Fellows, Chesapeake Program Director, Clean Water Action. “We’re pleased to endorse David Englin for re-election!”
“I’m proud to have the support of one of the nation’s premier environmental organizations,” said Englin. “We need to continue our investment in point-source pollution cleanup to protect and revive the Chesapeake Bay, and, more locally, we need to protect precious waterways and wetlands like Dyke Marsh. I’m proud to call Clean Water Action a partner in those efforts.”
Clean Water Action’s more than 1.2 million members, volunteers and seasoned professional staff have built one of the nation’s largest, most effective environmental organizations that provides recognized leadership on critically important environmental, health, ecosystem protection and community quality of life concerns.
Englin has also been endorsed by the Virginia League of Conservation Voters (who named him a “Legislative Hero”) and the Sierra Club because of his record of principled, effective leadership on a range of environmental issues.
