ALEXANDRIA – The Virginia Coalition of Police and Deputy Sheriffs, which represents state police officers, deputies and local police officers throughout the Commonwealth, announced Sunday that it endorses Del. David Englin (D-45) for re-election to the House of Delegates in this year’s election Nov. 6.

“David Englin’s voting record shows consistent support for legislation effecting law enforcement officers and their families. His time in uniform gives him a special understanding of the problems and challenges facing law enforcement professionals,” said Joshua P. David, president of the Virginia Coalition of Police and Deputy Sheriffs. “There are many important issues that face our public safety personnel throughout our state, and we are confident that David will do his best to help us address them. We look forward to working with David when he returns to the House of Delegates.”

“I’m honored to accept the endorsement of the men and women whom we trust to keep our families and our communities safe and secure,” said Englin, also referring to the Virginia Professional Fire Fighters and Paramedics, who endorsed his re-election last week. “Whether the threat comes from gangs, terrorists, house fires, or natural disasters, we rely on people who are willing to put their own safety on the line to protect us. They take care of us, and we have a duty to take care of them.”

David joined Sheriff Dana Lawhorne, Deputy Chief of Police Blaine Corle, and Vice Mayor Del Pepper for a special ceremony Friday presided over by Virginia Attorney General Bob McDonnell marking the formal launch of the Alexandria TRIAD / SALT Council to coordinate prevention of crimes against seniors.

“I want to thank Eileen Longstreet for raising this issue and for pressing us to make it happen, and Delegate David Englin for his energy and leadership in bringing this200807211358.jpgimportant state program to our community,” said Sheriff Lawhorne.

The Alexandria TRIAD / SALT Council is a partnership between law enforcement, seniors advocates, and other community stakeholders to develop and coordinate crime prevention so we can better protect our senior citizens.

Volunteers create more grassroots momentum!

Many thanks to another amazing crew of Team Englin volunteers, who packed Campaign Central last night stuffing envelopes and making phone calls to share David’s record of principled, effective, progressive leadership with people throughout the 45th District. Between multiple mailings and hundreds of phone calls, we reached out to thousands of voters.

“It’s such an honor to know that, while I’m out knocking on doors and talking with voters about their concerns, so many friends and neighbors are back at the house giving their time and energy to our cause,” said David. “Team Englin has always been about reaching out and empowering people to make change, so I’m especially happy that so many200807211402.jpgfirst-time volunteers keep joining us. That’s the kind of energy and grassroots momentum that money can’t buy.”

Come and join us this Sunday at 2 p.m. to knock on doors and next Thursday from 6 p.m. until late for another Volunteer Night and help push David to victory! Let us know you’re coming at gro.nilgnedivadnull@ofni or 703-549-3203.
