In the current edition of the quarterly news magazine The New Dominion, writer Chris Graham profiles “Generation X” elected leaders like David taking the reigns in Virginia government:
For David Englin and others in the thirtysomething group that is taking root in the state legislature, family is a big reason why they are involving themselves in the civic arena at such an early age.
“Growing up in a home with a single mother who was a public-school teacher on military bases overseas meant that I grew up in an environment where public service was the norm and the expectation,” Englin said.

Congratulations to the West Potomac High School Young Democrats for rising to Team Englin’s challenge to increase voter turnout in Grosvenor precinct!
Historically, this precinct has had very low turnout with very high Democratic performance. We gave these high school students the tools and the training to make a difference, and they did, increasing turnout and delivering it for David with 71.67% of the vote.
“Team Englin has always been about empowering people to make change, and I couldn’t be more proud of the West Potomac High School Young Democrats for proving that they can make a difference,” said David.
Thank you to everyone who worked so hard so that David can continue serving our community and fighting for progress in the General Assembly! With all precincts reporting, here is the final result:
Del. David L. Englin (D) 64.19%
Mark S. Allen (R) 35.71%

Throughout the weekend, dozens of grassroots volunteers fanned out across Alexandria, Arlington, and Fairfax knocking on thousands of doors during the first two days of the Final Four, reminding people of David’s record of principled, effective, progressive leadership and urging them to vote on Tuesday.
“I’m so incredibly grateful to everyone who is out there wearing through shoe leather to spread our message and get our people to the polls,” said David. “We continue to run a principled, progressive, grassroots campaign focused on issues that matter to the people of the 45th District, and I’m confident that the results on Tuesday will reflect that.”
Special thanks to the West Potomac High School Young Democrats, who have adopted and are working to increase turnout in a historically low-turnout precinct.
“I’m excited to see what the kids from West Potomac can do on election day!” said David. “What better way to teach young people about democracy than empowering them to make a difference in a real election.”
