Throughout the weekend, dozens of grassroots volunteers fanned out across Alexandria, Arlington, and Fairfax knocking on thousands of doors during the first two days of the Final Four, reminding people of David’s record of principled, effective, progressive leadership and urging them to vote on Tuesday.
“I’m so incredibly grateful to everyone who is out there wearing through shoe leather to spread our message and get our people to the polls,” said David. “We continue to run a principled, progressive, grassroots campaign focused on issues that matter to the people of the 45th District, and I’m confident that the results on Tuesday will reflect that.”
Special thanks to the West Potomac High School Young Democrats, who have adopted and are working to increase turnout in a historically low-turnout precinct.
“I’m excited to see what the kids from West Potomac can do on election day!” said David. “What better way to teach young people about democracy than empowering them to make a difference in a real election.”
David’s weekend started at the Old Town Farmer’s Market, followed by a get-out-the-vote rally in Arlington, followed by many, many hours at the doors meeting voters. On Sunday evening, after knocking on doors all day, David took a break from campaigning to volunteer at the Scholarship Fund of Alexandria’s annual telethon, which raised more than $117,000 to help Alexandria public school graduates pay for college.
Meanwhile, we confirmed this weekend that David’s Republican opponent is using his money to spin a different message to different people, claiming to the Washington Post that he’s “not really a Republican” but then sending mail to Republican households saying that he hopes to “make history by electing the first Republican Delegate from this area in a generation.” (Which is it?)
“Real leaders don’t just tell people what they want to hear to win their support,” said Shayna. “Real leaders stand for something. That’s why we’re all so proud to work so hard to keep David standing up for our community in Richmond.”
It’s not too late to do your part to make sure we send David back to Richmond! However much or little time you can contribute, we need your to help turn out votes. Click here to let us know when you can join us.
