Shayna, Caleb, and I wish you the very best for this holiday season and for the upcoming new year. As we look to 2008 with great hope for the future, I want to take this opportunity to pay special tribute to the scores of Team Englin grassroots volunteers who inspire me work harder each day as we fight for progress together. From my first moments in elected office, throughout my first term, and during an energetic and succesful re-election campaign, I have been able to stand up and vote strong as your delegate because you have stood with me.
As we worked side by side together, doing the hard grassroots work necessary for progress, I’m reminded of one my favorite quotes from Robert F. Kennedy:
“Each time a man stands up for an ideal, or acts to improve the lot of others, or strikes out against injustice, he sends forth a tiny ripple of hope, and crossing each other from a million different centers of energy and daring, those ripples build a current that can sweep down the mightiest walls of oppression and resistance.”
Thank you for your hard work, energy, and support during my first term and for giving hope to so many of our fellow Virginians.
Happy Holidays!

David and family joined Alexandria Police Chief David Baker on Sunday to light the menorah at the annual Hanukkah celebration hosted by Chabad Lubavitch of of Arlington-Alexandria.
“Lighting the menorah on a dreary day like this reminds us that, when we come together as a community, we can add to the light in the world,” said David, thanking Rabbi Mordecai Newman for the honor of lighting one of the flames.
The ceremony, hosted by J and J Oriental Rugs in Old Town, Alexandria, is an annual event that includes songs, dancing, latkes, and other Hanukah traditions.

David, Shayna, and Caleb helped kick off the holiday season in Alexandria Saturday riding in Joe LaMountain’s classic Volkswagen Cabrio in the annual Scottish Christmas Walk Parade.
“The Scottish Walk is one of my favorite events of the season, and a wonderful way to come together as a community and kick off the holidays,” said David, who traces part of his family heritage to Scotland. “It’s especially meaningful because it highlights the important services the Campagna Center provides for our children and families.”
