Englin appointed to special subcommittee on business and economic development

ALEXANDRIA - Delegate David Englin (D-Alexandria) announced today that he has been appointed to a newly formed joint subcommittee of the General Assembly to study local incentives provided to private businesses for economic development purposes.  Speaker William J. Howell (R-Stafford) appointed Englin to the 11-member committee, which was created by legislation passed during the 2008 General Assembly session.

“This will be an important opportunity to ensure that local governments have the tools they need to work with the private sector — and especially with small businesses — to create jobs and promote economic development,” said Englin.  “Small businesses are integral to the very fabric of our community here in the 45th District, so I am especially grateful for the opportunity to work with my colleagues on this new subcommittee to strengthen our community and our economy by strengthening small businesses.”

“What an amazing evening!” said David. “This is the kind of grassroots energy that will deliver the kind of change and progress all Virginians deserve. Shayna and I are incredibly lucky to have friends like you working with us for change.”

New sales tax holiday highlights need to prepare for emergencies

“In addition to providing a measure of help to people trying to be ready for emergencies in these tough economic times, I hope this holiday will highlight the need for people to be ready and plan for emergencies,” said David.
