Englin elected vice chairman of House Democratic Caucus

Alexandria - During their annual retreat outside of Richmond on Friday, House Democrats elected Del. David Englin (D-Alexandria) the new vice chairman of their caucus.

“Democrats are lucky to have strong leaders like David willing to step up to bring us together and move us forward during a challenging time,” said House Minority Leader Ward Armstrong (D-Henry). “He is a welcome addition to our senior leadership team.”

“I appreciate the confidence of my fellow Democratic legislators, and I look forward to rolling up our sleeves and continuing working together to advance our shared vision of a more just and prosperous future for all Virginians,” said Englin.

Prior to Saturday’s performance of Dracula at Thomas Jefferson Middle School and Community Theater in Arlington, David presented the 2009 Celeste Groves Award to Leslie A. Lynch of Alexandria.

“Congratulations to Leslie for her many years of dedicated service to Encore Stage & Studio,” said David.  “Institutions like Encore, which contribute to the vibrant fabric of our community and offer our children opportunities to grow their artistic talents, succeed only through the energy of devoted supporters like Leslie.”

Lynch has volunteered for Encore in multiple ways as a parent of performers, a member of the board, an officer, Stage Door producer, and as a friend of the organization for more than 15 years.

The “Celeste” is named for Encore’s longtime executive producer and box office manager, Celeste Groves, who has volunteered for Encore for more than 30 years.

David wins, thanks voters for strong vote of confidence

Thank you to the people of the 45th District for today’s strong vote of confidence.  In the worst year for Virginia Democrats in a decade, more than 61 percent of voters supported my re-election, and we won every precinct, including precincts that have gone to Republicans in the past.  Please know that I will keep working hard each day to live up to your faith in me.  I also want to thank my Republican opponent, Vicki Vasques, and her supporters for strengthening our Democracy by engaging in the process with such great energy.  But most importantly, I want you to know how deeply grateful I am to my family and friends and supporters, and to all of the amazing volunteers who continue working so hard to keep moving Virginia forward.

Tonight was not the night for Democrats we had hoped.  But in years of progress and in years of setback, those of us who care so deeply about the future of our Commonwealth and our Country must always remember that each campaign is but a means to an end — and we must always remember exactly what we’re fighting for.
