Woodrow Wilson Bridge Half Marathon will promote community’s economic and physical health

David joined Steve Nearman, founder and director of the upcoming Woodrow Wilson Bridge Half Marathon, along with race sponsors and local officials in Alexandria’s Market Square Wednesday to announce details of the event.
“Congratulations to Steve Nearman and all of the race sponsors and organizers,” said David.  ”My family and I traveled to Virginia Beach to run in their half marathon, and it’s my hope that people from all across the country will travel here to participate in this event, which will be our region’s first ‘destination’ half marathon.  This is a terrific way to promote both the economic and physical health of our community while supporting several very worthy causes.”
With Burke and Herbert Bank as the presenting sponsor, the 13.1 mile race will take place Sept. 19.  The course will begin at Mount Vernon, go along the George Washington Memorial Parkway and over the Woodrow Wilson Bridge, and will end at National Harbor in Maryland.  Funds raised through sponsorships and entrance fees will benefit the American Heart Association, Autism Speaks, the lice Ferguson Foundation, Child and Family Network Centers of Alexandria, the Washington Area Women’s Foundation, and Back on My Feet – DC.
