Meet Shayna

Shayna Englin grew up in Denver, Colorado with her parents, Bruce and Sherri Wolin, and her brother, Ely. She met David through her brother, who was two years behind David at the Air Force Academy. Shayna was working her way through college as an organizer for Colorado NARAL, so one of their first dates involved going door-to-door for pro-choice candidates. David and Shayna married a few days after graduation, and, in addition to graduate school and becoming a mom, Shayna continued developing her career in nonprofit and political management during a series of Air Force transfers.

Once David’s military service came to a close and their family put down roots in Alexandria, Shayna eventually founded Englin Consulting, a strategic planning, advocacy, and communications firm that helps nonprofit organizations be more successful advocates for better policy outcomes. Shayna volunteers with the PTA at George Washington Middle School, the neighborhood public school Caleb attends, and is active in the Alexandria Chamber of Commerce and a number of civic and community organizations.

Shayna earned a Master in Public Policy degree from Harvard’s John F. Kennedy School of Government, where she co-founded the school’s Race Ethnicity and American Leadership program, and Bachelors Degrees in political science and psychology from the University of Colorado, Denver. She also teaches graduate classes in strategy and communications at Georgetown University’s McDonough School of Business and at the George Washington University Graduate School of Political Management.

She enjoys spending as much time as she can with David and Caleb (her “boys”), who always keep life interesting.
